Radball "Cycle-Ball" was invented by a German-American Nicholas Edward Kaufmann in 1893 and gained popularity around Europe.
Radball is played indoors by two teams made up of two players (one field player and one goalkeeper, who can also play in the field) on an approx. basketball field size (international standard field size: 14 meters long by 11 meters wide) and trying to shoot a ball through their opponents’ goal, using the front wheel of the bike. A match consists of two seven-minute halves (2 minutes halftime break), in which players must keep their feet off the ground at all times, always on the pedals, to avoid a free-kick, and try to score more goals than their challengers. While defending the goal, the goaltender is allowed to use his hands. The goal is 2 meters wide x 2 meters high.
The ball is 17 to 18 cm in diameter, weighs around 500 to 600 grams and can reach a speed of up to 70 km/h while shooting.
The rules are similar to soccer, except it is played on a special bike. Penalty kicks are 4 meters (11 m. in soccer), corner kicks, free kicks etc. It is a pretty simple and fun game to play. We started this unique sport here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Any interest and support is very much appreciated. We are also looking for a permanent gym to train and introduce Radball to the public. If you know somebody who can spare a gym with a size of a basketball field, please let us know...
There is also one club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, attending at the Radball World Championship every year, since 2011. Radball Edmonton was a member of Team Canada and participated at the 2016 WM in Stuttgart, Germany.
