Stuttgart (rad-net) - From October 29th to 31st, 2021, the indoor cycling world championships will take place in the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart. After the corona-related cancellation last year, the title fights for the artistic cyclists and radball cyclists can take place this year - with spectators. The organizers have now announced that.
For UCI President David Lappartient, the “great silence” in the arenas ends with this World Cup. "The return of the spectators makes these World Championships something very special for all teams and the spectators." Rudolf Scharping, President of the Association of German Cyclists (BDR), sees it that way: “I'm really happy that the World Cup is taking place. Fascinating sport, great atmosphere, good organization, friendly hosts - that is what Stuttgart stood for and stands for. " The basis for the implementation of the event should be a hygiene concept that is closely coordinated with all those involved and the local authorities. Around 3500 tickets for the World Indoor Championships have already been sold. According to the current Corona regulations, up to 5000 cycling fans can follow the competitions. The 3G rule applies: Vaccinated, convalescent and tested people have access. Radball Edmonton was honored and we accepted the exciting challenge. After a couple meetings, finding out more details and how many participants to expect, we realized that we did not have enough bikes to practice. In May 2019 we reached out to one of our Radball Facebook and Email Friends Dieter Schäffler with Radball Radfahrverein Wetzikon in Switzerland. When he heard about our news, Dieter immediately began the search for bike (Velo) donations and contacted several Swiss Radball clubs. The response was overwhelming. “Off course, we will support Edmonton in Canada. It’s for a good course…” was said. Dieter drove to two clubs, Radsportclub Gümlingen and Radsportverein Embrach, and collected the generous donations of 8 used Velos. After a busy summer and fall Wetzikon and Edmonton organized the transport of the Velos. Dismantled and put into two packages, generously wrapped in plastic foil… The journey began mid January 2020 from Wetzikon via Zürich, Amstderdam, Calgary and arrived at its destination in Edmonton on January 24th. Radball Edmonton would like to extend a heartfelt Dankeschön and appreciation to all who were involved in the generous Donations.
